A Big Moment

As work on the jail has moved indoors, progress has come in less flashy ways, through the steady accumulation of small markers of progress – masonry, paint, ductwork and utilities.

But this week marked a major turning point, as crews poured and lifted the last phase of the foundation slab and were set to complete installation of the jail's structural steel. They celebrated with a meal from Black's BBQ, where the site managers thanked hundreds of employees and subcontractors for their hard work on the project – which in safety terms has also been incident-free – by serving them lunch.

With the last slab in place, the final walls can go up, and crews can begin getting the building ready for power to be turned on in the coming weeks.
