Moving on to the Next Phase

Drilling 1,800-plus piers for a new jail takes a while, but after two months, the process is in its final days.

Crews will drill the final holes for the Comal County Jail early next week, leaving the foundation site to the trenchers and pipelayers, who will continue laying utilities. Meanwhile, the next phase is set to begin: pouring the foundation slab itself.

The Yates-Sundt joint venture that serves as the project’s construction manager-at-risk began that process Tuesday morning, meeting with its various subcontractors to work out coordinating the pouring of both the slab and concrete tilt-walls. Both projects will take place simultaneously, as the slab is poured in seven sections, with walls following behind.

Pouring of the slab and walls is expected to begin in early August.
