From pouring to stamping to smoothing to laying, creating tilt-wall panels for the new Comal County Jail is in full swing, with an average of 10 completed every three days and 16 poured on Wednesday alone.
In an update to Commissioners Court on Thursday, project contractor Yates-Sundt said 54 of the 176 panels are finished with 40 more in progress. Completion is expected by the end of December, weather and other factors permitting.
The weather has been more cooperative; so far, the project has lost 22 days because of rain, and crews scrambled through the night just before Thanksgiving to get casting beds poured and dried before scheduled rainfall set them back any further.
Meanwhile, foundation work on the jail also continues. Three sections of the overall foundation slab have been poured, with a fourth scheduled for next week. Installation of the tilt walls and structural steel for the project is scheduled for early January.
