Commissioners Court on Thursday approved a guaranteed maximum price, or GMP, for the construction of the new Comal County Jail: $56.78 million.
The total covers the project from completion of early work to moving prisoners into the jail. Combined with the GMP for the early work phase of the project, the total construction will cost no more than $61.95 million. That does not include renovating the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, which will occur once the jail is complete and inmates have been transferred to the new facility.
Crews have been moving dirt and preparing pads for utilities and the foundation of the building since construction began in early January. Earthwork is expected to finish up by the end of February, while utility work is expected to begin this week and finish in early March.
The court approved the GMP 5-0.
