Drilling begins for massive concrete piers

This week at the Comal County Jail: Crews began drilling 40-foot holes for concrete piers. The holes are deep and wide enough that going inside the fences have to wear a harness and be clipped to keep them from falling. Once drilled and filled, the 200-plus piers will join the more than 1,600 steel helical piers in supporting the jail’s foundation.
